(This entry will follow more of a novelistic structure, as this was not an actual session. Instead, it covers the two months of game-time that pass after the end of Session V. In fact, to spice things up, I will present this entry from a first person POV. Prepare to enter the mind of Jason Gallant.)
Sitting in my room aboard Mr. Johnson's giant airplane, I look out the window. It appears that we are drawing nearer to the surface of the Earth, and the plane is circling what appears to be an island.
Strange, it appears to be in the shape of a giant phallus. No matter, it will be nice to be back in the United States of America. What exactly is the driver doing anyway? What's the point of circling this island?
At that moment I feel my military radio vibrate. I pick it up and push the "talk" button.
'This is Alastor. What is your message? Over.'
A voice clearly speaks through the radio. It has a robotic tone to it. It says to me, "Yes, Alastor. This is a message penned by Mr. Johnson himself. He requests that you move to the exit ramp immediately. You are not to speak with your companions, not to even say goodbye. You will exit the moment the ramp drops. You will proceed forward to the mansion in front of you. There you will be met by one of Mr. Johnson's servants. He will take you to a room for freshening up, and then you will read a letter that will be on a desk in front of a mirror. You will then go outside the mansion to a helicopter. Your contract with Mr. Johnson will be broken at that point." The voice then fades out with a click, followed by static.
I turn off my radio and look out the window once more. I grab my leather backpack (graciously provided by Mr. Johnson), my M-16, and start walking towards the exit ramp.
Looks like I'm being kicked out. It's probably because I cannot pilot mechs, and I'm therefore of no use in Mr. Johnson's war. It was a good effort, but in the end, this is probably the best for the both of us. I need to report back to my superiors anyway, and inform them of the destruction of the other super-soldiers. Speaking of which, Mr. Johnson only said that "some" of the soldiers died. Does that imply that there may a couple still out there?
I stop in front of the exit ramp. To my side I see a seat with a belt. I lay my backpack and M-16 next to the seat and buckle myself in. I then hold the gun on my lap.
How am I going to explain all of this to my superiors anyway? To them, I've been AWOL ever since that helicopter was destroyed nearly a week ago. I guess I better give them the whole truth, maybe they know more than they are letting on.
I feel a strong bump, and then silence. The ramp, powered by quiet hydrolics, begins to slowly descend to the ground. I unbuckle myself and grab my things. By this point, the ramp has reached the ground, and so I make my way onto the island.
Wow this is really beautiful...
I see a paradise around me. A picturesque mansion directly in front of me, and all kinds of plants surround it. Shrubbery, flowers, small trees, and grass all take my senses for a ride. I step forward and approach the door, which then mysteriously opens. I see before myself a medium statured man wearing a tuxedo. He is carrying a towel.
He gestures to his right and says, "Please follow me."
Seeing no reason not to, I follow the man to a room. It appears to be a bedroom, with a desk with a mirror mounted on the wall right behind it in there as well. There appears to be no letter. Farther back in the room, I see yet another door which leads to a bathroom. The servant hands me a towel.
"Please freshen up," he tells me.
'Sure thing. Thank you.'
I go into the bathroom and take a nice, long, twenty minute shower. It had been a couple days since my last shower, and all that action on the beach had left me filthy. As I cleaned myself off, I recounted the events to myself in my head.
What exactly was up with that boat, and its A.I. SOL? Jim had tried to explain it, but it still doesn't explain its presense near the island. I wonder if the island and that were connected. Hell, I wonder if those two things have a connection to the weird shit that went down in New Jersey.
Finished with my shower, I dry off and brush my teeth with the complimentary toothbrush left for me. I put on a fresh pair of clothes. They are civilian clothes, a pair of jeans and a red t-shirt. I look over at my flak jacket and my ultra cool ventilating jacket. They look in sorry shape.
I really ought to buy some new ones.
My attention turns to the desk, on which there is now an envelope.
Ah, there it is.
I pick it up and open it. Inside are four checks, each made out for $4000. The payee is blank.
Heh, the old man never knew my name.
I fill in "Jason Gallant" on the checks, and put them in my backpack. I notice that something else is within the envelope. It appears to be a business card, except that it is plated in pure gold. It looks like it is Mr. Johnson's contact information. I flip the card over, and see that there is a short message engraved on the back:
"You were quite the asset. Don't hesitate to contact me. You have unique talents.
-Mr. Johnson"
This'll be something to hang on to.
I put the card in my backpack, and saddled all my stuff on my back. It was now time to leave. I leave the mansion and approach the helicopter waiting for me. The pilot is standing outside, giving me a smile.
He states pleasantly, "Where to sir?"
'Take me to FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.'
He nods and gets in the pilot seat. I sit in the back, and lay down. This trip was going to take a couple hours, so I thought that I mind as well get some sleep.
I feel the plane touch down gently. I get up off the bench I was sprawled out upon, and make a big yawn. The door in front of me opens, and the pilot is there, smiling once again.
'Thank you for the ride. Give Mr. Johnson my best.'
The pilot nods. I step off the helicopter and see FBI headquarters right in front of me.
I wonder how he got permission to land this close to the building? I guess Mr. Johnson must have more connections than I originally thought.
The pilot gets back in the helicopter and takes off. Left with only my belongings and my wits, I walk forward to the building.
It is hard to remember what happened next. I have a vague memory of walking down several corridors, and my belongings being kept back when I entered. Before long, I find myself in a small room with a desk. Behind the desk are my Sergeant Major and William Bayne. They do not look overjoyed at my presence, and the smile on my face fades. Instead, I salute and stand at rigid attention.
"Corporal, you may relax. Please have a seat," my Sergeant Major says as he motions to the chair in front of the desk.
I sit down at the desk and look William Bayne in the eye.
He begins to speak, "This is your debriefing Mr. Jason Gallant, codename Alastor. You have been AWOL for nearly a week. We are aware that you crossed the Atlantic during this period of time. Would you please explain your actions?"
'Sir, it is quite a complicated story. I will begin at the point where I received my order to track the super soldiers.'
And so I began my story. Around the point where I begin talk about the weapons components shipment I was sent to intercept, I am interrupted by William:
"Ah yes, the weapon components shipment. You do understand why you were sent after them, correct? They had much more to do with your mission than you think."
'How exactly? The sergeants on the helicopter did not brief me on the nature of the weapon components.'
"I'll tell you this much. By the time you arrived, the weapon components were already gone. Before we had you picked up, we detected several interesting things. Those are not for you to know however."
'Why not? If it dealt with my mission, why shouldn't I know?'
"For your own safety... and ours. But we will get to that later. Please continue your story."
The story was relayed to them in moderate detail. I tell them of my meeting with Mr. Johnson, my temporary alliance with him, and my actions on the island. I however omitted the special powers I observed in my companions. I wished to keep those secret. Several times my Sergeant Major whispered in William Bayne's ear, most notably whenever I mentioned Mr. Johnson's technology, or any other technology involved in my mission. They also talked for quite a bit after I mention that I was behind the destruction of an island. When I tell them of the gigantic mech underneath the sand in Africa with the American Flag, the Sergeant Major quickly scratched something on a piece of paper, and put it in his pocket. Finally, I was done my story.
My Sergeant Major then spoke up, "Corporal Gallant, I wish to inquire more about the technology possessed by Mr. Johnson. Did it appear abnormal, or prototypical, if you catch what I mean?"
'No it didn't. Why do you ask?'
"I have my reasons, and that's not for you to know. What exactly did he want from that island anyway?"
'In all truth, I do not know his motivations. I was stuck in a situation in which cooperation was the only way out.'
My Sergeant Major whispers one final time to William. He then looks at me.
He makes an upward gesture with his palm and says, "Corporal Gallant, please rise."
I do as I am told.
"We have reason to believe that you are not telling us the whole truth. Throughout this whole ordeal you seemed to have maintained a strange disposition. Why is it that you deviated from your original mission? This Mr. Johnson, quite frankly, strikes me as dangerous. How would he know that the super soldiers were on that island? How does he possess such advanced technology, and is in contact with those that can utilize it so well? War to save the world? What madness. I request that you have no more contact with him."
I stand silent and rigid, staring him coldly in the eyes.
"Furthermore, your haphazard handling of the events on the island suggests to me that you may yourself be succumbing to the hazards of your chemical treatments. We cannot take any chances of you going batty on us, especially with the powers that you command. I hereby order you to see a specialist bi-weekly. He will do tests on you to see if you have any more ill-effects due to your chemical enhancements. Until he has a proper diagnosis, you are on inactive duty. From here you will be escorted from this building, and we will take you to a hotel nearby. You are not to leave Washington D.C. until the tests are done. Good day."
With that, William Bayne pushes a button on the desk. In five seconds two men surround me and tug on my arms. I go with them and leave the building.
---------------------
A few days have passed since the debriefing. I have received a check from the United States Treasury for $10,000. It is to keep me tided over until my tests are done. I have taken to drinking the past couple days. Not much has made sense, and I feel betrayed by the country I served so loyally.
What was up with that debriefing anyway? Why were they so secretive? I was sent out to get these super soldiers. What's significant about those weapons components? Furthermore, how the hell were they gone? Why was I sent in the first place? Unless... unless they knew about the black locomotive? Perhaps they knew exactly what was going to transpire? So, does that mean the super soldiers are connected to the weapon components?
I get up with a start and look through the documents I had requested from the FBI. They are public documents, so they are general, but they mention that helicopters were sighted going inland the day of the train wreck. Furthermore, and large unidentifed craft moved out to sea quickly during this time period.
Could that be... SOL? Weapon components gone, helicopters inland. Wait a second, what's this?
I go back a page, and I realize that transport aircrafts were sighted near the train tracks about an hour before the unidentified craft left.
What the hell? Whoever and whatever was on that train were probably removed then. But something's missing... why was the train already destroyed? Could that have been the work of the super soldiers? Wait a second. My trail went completely cold in New Jersey. Could the weapon components be... the super soldiers themselves?
At this moment my watch beeps. It is time for my appointment. I quickly get my stuff together and go out the door. I mount my newly purchased motorcycle, a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R. Cost me $8000, but it was worth it. The baby runs super smooth, and with its deep blue color, it just screams coolness.
I arrive at the specialist's office in roughly ten minutes. I dismount my motorcycle, and enter. Aftering waiting a few minutes, the specialist enters the waiting room.
He speaks in a quiet, yet suspicious, voice, "Ah yes, you must be Mr. Gallant. My name is Herman Guss, and I will be your examiner for the next couple of months."
I extend my hand, and I shocked by the claminess of his palm.
'Nice to meet you.'
"Please, come right this way," Herman says and gesters into the back room.
We enter the room, and I gasp. The room is lined with monitors, machines, and inputs and outputs for the human body. On a cart are several empty needles, and a shelf are several bottles of chemicals.
"Don't be afraid. Please, have a seat."
I comply.
"Please remove your shirt."
Once again I comply. He sticks various diodes on my body, and flips on some of the machines around me. He then sits down with a clipboard.
"Tell me Mr. Gallant. How long has it been since your peers went mad?"
'I say it was about a month and a half ago by now.'
"Okay. How have you felt?"
'Well, aside from not understanding the events of the past month and a half very well, I feel fine. In fact, I've felt quite fit, much more than usual.'
"Mr. Gallant, you do realize that was the symptoms exhibited by your peers before their descent into madness?"
'You're kidding me...'
"No."
I stare him directly in the eye. Something just does not feel right about this situation. I have a very bad feeling about my surroundings, and moreso by those needles near me.
What does he want from me? It's quite obvious I'm healthy, and I do not buy that "symptom" bullshit for a minute. Why would William of all people send me here?
"Moving on, let's discuss your actions back on the island that you destroyed. Here in your file it mentions that you lost your powers for about a minute due to another individual. Would you please explain? This may be the key to explaining your actions."
'I have no clue what you're talking about.'
How the hell does he know that? I never mentioned Jim once. I knew it appeared that they knew more than they let on. Too bad this dolt just slipped up for them. What is going on here?
"Don't be silly, its right here."
'I never spoke of such events. I think you're mistaken.'
The specialist scratches something down on his clipboard.
"Okay, well it looks like you aren't going to cooperate."
Something catches my eye through the window.
"It's time to examine your body's current chemical structure. I need to give you an injection. This injection is to make the secret chemical in your body become visible. Yes, the government took precautions to see that our secret super-soldier program would not be easily detected and replicated. Anyway, after the injection, we will wait ten minutes for the chemical to take effect in your body, and then we will take a blood sample."
The specialist begins to prepare the needle with one of the chemicals from the shelf. It is a clear fluid in an unmarked bottle.
"Now please hold still."
Suddenly, what caught my eye through the window appeared at the door. It was none other than William Bayne. He is out of breath. He makes a motion to me that I had not seen since my high school days. It was the signal we had devised for the wrestling team that meant danger. It was to be made when a drill or the practicing of a move was approaching a dangerous level. I knew exactly what William meant this time.
'Nice try!'
I turn myself intangible just before the needle enters my skin. The surprised specialist falls forward into the chair. I stand up and extend my energy claws. I use them to knock the needle out of his hand. I now become tangible and remove one of my claws. I hold him by the scruff of the neck and put the claws right next to his face.
'Who paid you to try and assassinate me?!'
The specialist is paralyzed with fear. He wets his pants, and barely spits out his answer.
"The US government! I-I-I swear, it wasn't my idea!"
'You aren't worth my time. Look, if you tell anyone of what transpired here, including my Sergeant Major, I will hunt you down personally and cut you to ribbons. I have the ability, so don't tempt me you putrid pile of shit!'
With that threat, I toss him on the floor right into the cart with the needles. The specialist shields his body. I leave with William Bayne.
'We need to talk.'
He responds, "I agree, but not here."
'Come with me then, we'll find a spot.'
I get on my motorcycle, and hops on behind me. We take off down the road. I go to the local forest. Without saying a word, I have him follow me into the forest. Once we are deep enough in, I grab him and slam him against a tree.
'You will do exactly as I say. First, you will remove you shirt and pants.'
He looks at me horrified.
'Just do it.'
I extend one of my claws at his face. He reluctantly complies, and before long he is standing before me in his boxers. I examine him for a bit.
'Now turn around.'
I examine him from behind. Satisfied, I pick his clothes and toss them at him.
'Put them back on.'
He looks at me with disgust, "Why'd you make me do that?"
'How was I to know if you were wearing a wire or some sort of GPS location device? If there is one thing I've learned over the past couple days, it's that you can't even trust your own friends.'
The hardened look on William's face softens. He pulls out a small device from his jean pocket.
"Look, I'm on your side. This here is a spy satellite jamming device. I stole it out of the FBI Headquarters before I came looking for you. We can converse here as long as we need without detection."
I examine the device. Sure enough, it appears as if it puts out a counter-signal to jam all thermal, sound, and camera devices. I hand it back to him. I then lean against a tree.
'Well, I'm waiting for an explanation.'
"Jason, I want to apologize for my actions. I had to put on that act in order to get you to safety. As you now know, they wanted you assassinated. You know way too much. That device you discovered in Africa, you were NOT to know about that. Furthermore, they know everything that transpired. The government does not trust Mr. Johnson. He acts as a freelance, doing what he feels like. His enormous wealth, influence, and power is a threat. Suppose one day he wanted to wipe out the United States government? The government knew that without intervention, you would continue to work for him."
I remain silent for a bit, for this is the truth. His war to save the world seemed pressing, and all the pieces were falling together.
'So, they know the truth about the super soldiers?'
"Yes. And so do I. It's time for you to know the truth Jason. You know about the attacks in New Jersey by the spherical robots. The minute that attack happened, your peers went mad. However, it was not due to the chemical. They were summoned, most likely by an advanced hypnosis."
'Why was I not affected?'
"I honestly do not know, and that may be something you'll need to discover on your own. There may be some higher power behind that act. However, the super soldiers you were chasing arrived in New Jersey one day ahead of you. They arrived around the time the sinkhole appeared in the city."
'Wait a second. How do you know this information anyway?'
"Spy satellites. We have 24 of them orbiting the globe. We knew exactly what was transpiring. However, it was all up to you. Anyway, after the super soldiers arrived, they were immediately under attack. We saw that it was SOL that fired the shots. SOL shot a canister a far distance, which sprayed the super soldiers with a potent sleeping gas. Being that they were intangible, it was twice as potent as normal. However, it missed its exact target, and only affected three of the soldiers. One managed to escape. The other three were picked up via train exactly one mile south. How they were carried there is a mystery."
'That means, the weapon components were the super soldiers themselves! I was right! So that means that they were being transported to some location to be picked up by those transport planes I read in the reports.'
"Exactly. But not all went according to their plan. That lone super soldier came back to his wits and overcame the hypnosis under which he had fallen. I remember you spoke of a bond that you felt between yourself and the rest of the soldiers. A bond so strong that you could find each other, even if you were miles away. It was almost as if the chemical acted as an internal compass. Anyway, the lone super soldier found the train without much effort. He set to attempting to stop the train by any means necessary. He began destroying the inside of compartments, and killing the security guards on the train. It was at this point that SOL took over. It fired a blast at the train at the compartment the super soldier was in. However, since he was intangible, the blast did nothing. SOL sensed that the super soldier had moved to another compartment, and it blasted there too. This second blast derailed the train, and caused all the damage that you saw when you arrived at the scene."
'I see where this is going. The transport planes head that way to pick up the survivors and the super soldiers in cargo. But where does the black locomotive come in?'
"I'm getting to that. But yes, the transport planes arrived and took everyone away to the island."
'What happened to the lone super soldier?'
"SOL fired a sleeping gas canister. This time it hit its mark. However, the soldier was inside, and he missed the initial transport. A set of helicopters arrived on the scene minutes before you arrived, scooped up the final super soldier, and headed off to the west. SOL headed off east, and suddenly covered itself with a cloud that effectively cloaked it. It's trajectory was straight for the island however."
'And then I arrive on the scene and find nothing.'
"Yep. Knowing that you were on their trail, the heads of the island sent the black locomotive after you. It's task was to get there as soon as possible and detonate that hydrogen bomb to eliminate evidence and destroy you."
I was stunned by this news. That black locomotive wanted me dead. I now realize how much I owed my life to Iceman and Mr. Johnson. Without their intervention, I would have died. I could not have taken on that mech by myself, it would have detonated the device before I could have made a dent in it.
'So why did the government not want me to know the weapon components were the super soldiers?'
"Because they didn't want you to see the connection. As you can probably guess, something really big is going down. I am one of the top members of the FBI, and even I am in the dark."
'So wait, do you think that possibly the United States government is in cohoots with whatever this entity is? That could explain why they wanted me dead, in addition to the rest of the reasons we went over.'
"Once again, I honestly do not know. All I know is this. The three super soldiers that were captured were indeed transported to that island. They were being experimented on, and the scientists were trying to discover a way to replicate the process used to create your powers. Even if they succeeded, they did not have enough time to replicate, and all processes were destroyed along with the island. You will never hear from those super soldiers again. But, there is the lone one that was sent off west."
'You don't mean... they may be successful this time?'
"That's my fear. A lot of these pieces of the puzzle are coming together, and it spells doom for the whole world. But, there are a few pieces missing. You know what's missing just as well as me."
'What is behind all this, and what role does our government play in it?'
"Precisely. That's why I am still working with the FBI. I hope to uncover the truth to all this one day."
I stand and stare at my friend across from me.
He is risking his job and life to tell me all this. His help could be vital to figuring this all out. I need to stay in contact with him.
'William, keep working at the FBI, and keep me informed. If you discover anything, let me know. I think I know now what I need to do.'
"What's that?"
'I need to track down that final super soldier. The secret behind our inception cannot be revealed to this enemy. If we were mass produced, that would spell doom for us. As far as I know, only I can fight against them, as my claws do harm to them. I cannot take a whole army down.'
"Well, this leads me to my final point. Those helicopters contained stealth devices. I have no idea where they went."
'Are you serious?'
"Yes."
'Damn, I can't hunt every square inch of this country!'
"I don't expect you too. As I said before, I suspect the FBI knows more than even I've been told. I'm going to continue to dig for information, and I'll relay it to you the moment it becomes available. It could take a while though."
'It might be too late by then.'
"I know, but we have to take that chance. You need to maintain a low profile. While I'm searching, I recommend enlisting at a college for a night class so you can brush up on your skills and knowledge. I have the feeling that you'll be needing that soon enough. Also, take the time to try and upgrade your weapons and equipment. I'll give you the names to some good dealers. They'll take care of you."
'I don't like the idea of stalling, but I guess we have no choice. Should I return to my home in Pittsburg?'
"No. I'll venture to guess that your house will be monitored 24/7 from here on out, once that specialist spills the beans. Rent an apartment in Ohio. That's far enough away, and I know a town that has a local community college that you can attend. Here, I'll write it down."
William takes out a piece of paper and scribbles on it. He hands it to Jason.
"There you go. Now let's go back to my car."
We exit the forest and I take William back to his car. As he gets in, he waves goodbye.
"I'll be in contact with you."
---------------------
A month and a half pass. It has now been nearly two months since I have left Mr. Johnson's island. I have gone to school for [insert secondary skill here]. My rent has run me $1200 so far. I also have taken the liberty to purchase some new armor, weapons, and upgrades.
I can't get over all the information I learned from William. I have come to grips that my involvement in those events that spanned nearly a week were no coincidence. I was meant to discover what I did, and trivial occurances are now taking on larger meaning. Something big is going on, but it is rather quiet. I have not heard from Mr. Johnson or any of my former companions. I have received no word from William. I am beginning to feel like we failed in our mission. Perhaps William was discovered? I sure hope not.
The quiet is all interrupted one day. My phone rings. I answer, and it is William. He has found the location of the scientific base where the lone super soldier was lifted. Apparently it was established on the periphery of Lake Erie. William faxes me directions to this location from my house.
I suit up with my new equipment, and set out on my well maintained motorcycle.
---------------------
I reach the base of the enemy. I have no idea what to expect. There is no enterance visible, but William had pinpointed where the underground portions began. I took a deep breath, went intangible, extended my claws, and dropped through the earth. Within two seconds I fall into a well-lit passage.
What's this?
I look around. The place is completely deserted. There is no one to be found.
This is kinda creepy.
I begin to walk down the passageway when I feel a strong pull on my body.
That must be the super soldier!
I begin sprinting, letting my intution lead me. It isn't long before I find myself in a huge room. There are numerous computer terminals in front of me. They form rows from the front of the room to the back. At the very front of the room is a glass tube filled with a clear fluid. I look at the tube, and to my horror, I find a gaunt, sickly, and disfigured version of one of my former super soldier companions within this tube!
'Gary, is that you?'
His hand begins to move. I just back with a start, surprised by this sign of life.
Those bastards, they left life support on, just so he'd suffer!
I extend my claws and shatter the glass quickly. I cut various cables loose from Gary's body, and take him out of the tube. I lay him on his back. His eyes open slightly, and he looks at me, and forces a smile, which looks to cause him a great deal of pain.
He says in a forced whisper, "So you discovered where I was, eh?"
'Don't force your speech.'
"That's alright... I'm done for... anyway."
He breathes heavily, and begins to cough. He takes a deep breath and resumes speaking.
"Jason, you're too late... though. They've discovered... it. They know our... secret."
'What!'
"Yes. Jason, you've always... been the strongest of... us. You were special. Please, avenge... us! Don't let it take over!"
'What's that? Who's it?'
Gary opens his mouth to speak again, but nothing comes out. He forces one last smile at Jason before his eyes begin an endless course towards his inner skull. With one final shudder, Gary's body grows limp in my arms. A tear escapes from my eye, and it falls gracefully to the floor. Solemnly, I press my fingers down over Gary's eyelids. I then lay Gary on the floor and cross his arms.
Yes, I will avenge you. I will discover who is behind this. It's clear that the whole world is threatened now! My destiny has never been this clear before.
With that thought, I return to the surface. I pull out my cellphone and dial William's number. After a few rings, I suddenly hear a swift cutting sound, followed by the message:
"We're sorry. This phone number does not exist. Please try dialing again, or if you have difficulties, please call your operator."
My eyes widen, and I drop down to my knees. My whole body feels rigid at first, and then it begins to shake uncontrollably.
No! I can't believe this. This can only mean one thing. William was caught! Damn, I bet the government intercepted that fax he sent me, and that was all the proof they needed to 'erase' him!
'Damn it! God fucking damn it all to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
I let forth a brutal yell, and then I fall onto my hands and begin panting.
My best friend... he's dead. First my parents, then my fellow super soldiers, and now William...
Suddenly, a phrase runs through my head.
"We're waging a war to save the world!"
That's right! Mr. Johnson and Iceman. With everyone that I care about gone, and with the pieces of the puzzle nearly in place, I must return to them. It is here and now that I will dedicate myself to helping them wage this war. It's important they know about what is going on. This just may be the information they're looking for.
I pull out my cell phone and the gold plated card Mr. Johnson had given me. I dial the number on it.
'Hello. This is Jason Gallant, you knew me as Alastor. Yes, I am the guy with unique talents. I have a lot I need to tell you. No, the line may be bugged. Yes, a personal jet will be fine, it just needs to be able to hold a motorcycle. Sure thing. Great. Thanks.'
I put my cell phone away. In about ten minutes, a personal jet arrives. I stow the motorcycle in its cargo area, and I get inside and find the liquor. I pull out the bottle of tequila. I pour myself a shot and down it. I then take a seat and fall asleep.
---------------------
I awaken to find myself circling the island of Mr. Johnson once again.
And so it begins, the war to save the world! I just hope they'll listen to what I have to say.
The plane touches down on Mr. Johnson's private runway. I grab my stuff, get my motorcycle, and wait for the cargo ramp to lower. Once it lowers, I walk out with my motorcycle to once again experience the visual paradise that is Mr. Johnson's island. I begin a slow walk towards his mansion.

Jason's frantic running brings him closer and closer to his target. The extreme brutality of the mechanized combat shakes his soul, and the din arising from the mounted guns on each robot pierce through Jason's eardrums. Feeling the ground itself shaking, Jason nearly looses his footing as he dashes next to the locomotive mech. Quickly swallowing any doubts he has, Jason jumps onto the back of the robot's leg, and with his energy claws, begins to climb.
Jason quickly reaches the "torso" of the locomotive mech, and he passes though the steel into the interior. Here he finds numerous gears, cords, and computer chips surrounding him. The noise of the working parts surrounding him is already loud, but the cacophony from the bullets hitting the "armor" of the locomotive mech is nearly deafening. But Jason looks past the aural pain and begins to systematically attack each and every part surrounding him. Sparks fly. Cords snap. Computer silicon disintegrates. Before long, a dark fluid begins to fill the cavity in which Jason occupies. Undaunted, he continues his assault.
A mis-directed swing causes Jason's momentum to throw him directly out of the robot. He lands on the ground. Slightly embarrassed, he gets up and looks back towards where the man was running with the supposed "bomb." Jason sees him trip and fall over. The sphere collides with the ground with a thud.
"Oh shit..." Jason thinks to himself.
Luckily, the device does not explode, but it appears as if the man has twisted his ankle. He remains on the ground, rubbing his ankle.
"Well that's just great. So much for that plan." Jason says to himself.
The sound of ricocheting bullets snaps Jason's attention back to the matter at hand. Turning back to the locomotive mech, he once again ascends to the torso and enters the cavity. The liquid has gotten higher, and is at his waist. Wasting no time, Jason begins to tear apart what is left of the insides. He feels a slight rumble from within the robot. The liquid has now risen up to his chest. Distracted by the noise and the liquid, Jason once again miscalculates a slash and finds himself outside the robot. Now a new sight catches his eye. He sees Bob hovering in the air, and sending what appears to be blasts of air towards the kneecap of the robot. It seems to be eating away at the robot's joints.
Jason ponders, "I wonder what that is. Well, no time to worry about it now. The insides of this thing are toast, so what's left to damage?"
Looking up, Jason sees the head of the mech, with its lighted eyes. Getting an idea, Jason runs back to the mechs leg and ascends again. He reaches the shoulders and stands on them. Getting himself in position, Jason slashes right through the head, striking its innards. The lights in the eyes flicker out, and the mech emits a loud roaring sound. Seeing that it was successful, Jason continues to strike the head, both outside and inside. The robot seems to be losing its balance due to its weakened knee joint and lack of visual sensors.
In the distance another train comes thundering along the tracks. It is coming from the same direction that the black locomotive did, and it does not seem to be slowing down. It goes straight into the hole created by the other mech (see Session I), and the train derails. The train tips over and continues to slide. Seeing the train coming, Jason jumps off and begins to run. The train collides with the legs of the locomotive mech and it falls over. The mech holds its hands to its face and begins to emit a sound that eerilly sounds like sobbing. A small twinge of pity enters Jason's heart, but that is quickly expunged when he remembers all the trouble the mech caused. From the distance, he sees what appears to be a black man clad in only a towel crawling out of the debris of the second train.
The other mech approaches the fallen locomotive mech and puts its energy gun to its face. Jason then hears the mech pilot say, "I want some information." The locomotive mech begins to "laugh," and the other mech pulls away its gun, turns back into what appears to be a plane, and flies away. Bob begins to fly in the other direction. Jason turns tail and runs too.
About 30 seconds later, a bright flash of light enters Jason's vision, followed by a huge gust of wind and an incredible noise. A surge of heat flows through Jason's intangible self, and the ground rumbles. Jason falls over from the explosion, but is unhurt. Jason gathers where the others are. It appears that the man with the sphere has overcome his twisted ankle, and the woman that was following him earlier has now caught up. The black man is walking towards them and shouting obscenities. Jason shouts something uncomplementary back, but then chooses to ignore him.
Jason doesn't know what to do now, since his backup has been destroyed by the robot. He doesn't have much time to think however, as a humongous black plane in the shape of a triangle lands near him. A bridge drops from below the bottom of the plane, and blinking lights begin to flash on the edges of the bridge. The effect is rather hypnotic, and Jason feels the urge, in fact he feels compelled, to walk up the bridge and enter the plane. The others (sans the black man in the towel) follow suit. As he enters, it appears that the mech-plane is docking aboard this much larger plane.
Jason finds himself in a huge cargo bay. Looking around him, he sees lots of open space, and tarps covering what appears to wooden boxes. Jason approaches one of the tarps, and cuts it loose with his energy claws. It reveals a stow of oranges.
"Ah, what the hell. I'm hungry anyway." Jason thinks as he grabs one, peels it, and eats it.
He continues to explore, and finds himself going up a hallway towards a door. He enters the door, and finds before him a large oval shaped desk surrounded by chairs. On the desk is a hologram of the globe. A man is sitting in a chair, and he is drinking what appears to be whiskey. It appears to be the pilot of the mech/airplane device. On the back of his chair it says "Iceman."
Not seeing much else to do, Jason sits down. Bob comes in and joins them. In about 2 minutes, the globe changes into the image of an old man. He begins to speak with what appears to be a British accent.
"Hello. My name is Mr. Johnson. It seems like you've all had a rough time." the giant head states.
Iceman leans forward and puts his whiskey on the table, and says, "Hey, no need for the introduction. I know who you are. Also, I need some more ammo for my mech. I'm fresh out."
Mr. Johnson replies, "That will be taken care of in due time. And I was introducing myself to our friends over here." His face turns towards each of them. Iceman shrugs and resumes drinking.
Mr. Johnson continues, "Well, I would like to welcome you all aboard. By entering this ship, you have agreed to a contract of sorts, and now are all under my employ."
Jason makes a start and interjects, "What's that? I'm a member of the U.S. Army, and you can't enact a contract just like that!"
Mr. Johnson chuckles, and then shakes his head, "Well, you don't have much choice now, do you? Your comrades are dead, and you are caught up in a terrible mess. We are now also over the Atlantic Ocean, so I don't suggest you drop out of this plane. From what I understand, you wish to learn more about the events of the city anyway, yes?"
Jason nods. Suddenly he remembers something, "Speaking of that, what about that sphere I found on the trains?"
Mr. Johnson smiles, "Ah yes, that. That was a hydrogen bomb, ripe for destroying evidence. I think it should go off any second now."
With that, a loud rumble fills the air and causes some turbulence to the plane. A monitor nearby flips on, and there is a picture of a mushroom cloud. The monitor then flips off.
"There we go. That's the least of your worries now, anyway. Now, why don't you all relax and make use of the facilities? We have multiple rooms, and clean sheets, showers, and food."
Jason interrupts again, "Wait a second, where exactly are we going?"
Mr. Johnson chuckles again, "Don't you worry about that. You'll find out soon enough."
With that the head dissapears and is once again replaced with the globe. Iceman gets up and leaves, as does Bob. Jason turns around and sees that the man who had carried the sphere turn around and leave.
Jason thinks to himself, "Not much more to do than to find my room."
With that, Jason gets up and looks around the ship for a while, and eventually finds the quarters for guests.

After his exhaustive search for the nine super soldiers had led him to New Jersey, Jason now finds himself standing outside of the restricted area of the city. He knows that the sinkhole that recently appeared is somewhere within this restricted area. Since he is essentially a special agent of the army, he needs to keep his identity a relative secret, and therefore cannot flout his status to waltz around the restricted area. Intrigued by this area of the city and the spherical robot attacks, Jason goes intangible and begins to wander the city, towards the general direction of the sinkhole. He is passing through buildings.
While manuevering his way towards the sinkhole, a police officer comes around the corner and sees Jason prowling around. He yells, "Hey you, stop!" Since Jason is of a scrupulous alignment, he is not one to attack someone for no good reason. Instead, Jason uses his extraordinary speed to run away and passes through a manhole.
Jason now finds himself in the sewers. It stinks of shit and rotting matter, and is rather dark. Jason is able to use his survival skills he picked up in the army to keep his general sense of direction. He passes through walls and eventually finds himself before a great deal of rubble and earth. Jason, pretty sure that this is the sinkhole, passes through the rubble and exits on the other side, finding himself smack dab in the middle of the sinkhole. He sees fire fighters extinguishing the blazes in the surrounding area, but nothing of great interest.
Jason thinks to himself, "This hasn't been very fruitful. I wonder if the cause of this would be visible from a higher vantage point." He looks around, and sees a tall building, to him it seems to be the tallest building in the restricted area. Using his intangibility once again, he passes through the ground, upward towards the building. He is once again spotted by the police, so he drops into the ground, and goes near the building, only to find himself in the basement.
The basement contains boxes, pipes, and stairs leading up out of the room. He sneaks up the stairs and peeks out the door, and sees police moving about. Jason has attracted the police's attention enough for one day, so he looks around for another way up. He sees a vent. Extending his energy claws, he climbs up to the second floor. He comes out into a room. It appears that he is in a hotel of some sort. Making a quick pass through the room, he sees nothing that catches his interest, only a few magazines and dressers. He passes back into the vent and tries to climb up higher, but he loses his grip with his claws and falls back down to the second floor. He had noticed there was an elevator on this floor earlier, so he goes over to it and looks through it with his intangibility. He notices the elevator is on the bottom floor, so he jumps through the door and becomes tangible and grabs for the cable. He loses his grip and falls onto the top of the elevator. The wind is knocked out of him for a while.
After Jason regains his breath and is sure that no one was alerted by the noise his fall made, he becomes intangible again and climbs up the shaft with his claws. He continues climbing up until he is on the roof. From this new vantage point nothing catches his interest once again. Knowing that his trail on the super-soldiers was now completely cold, and that his investigation of the area was seemingly a waste of time, Jason goes tangible and sits down to think about his current predicament. Not too long after becoming tangible, Jason's army-issued radio comes on with voices from army officials.
Jason takes out his radio and hears, "We have new orders for you Alastor. There is a copter coming to pick you up. Do you copy?"
Jason is a little wary of this order, because it has nothing to do with the super-soldiers. He assumes that it must be from someone else than the government, and that he has nothing to fear from this transmission. Jason responds, "I copy. You can find me on top of the tallest building in this city, within the restricted area."
The copter comes in a few minutes and picks Jason up. Jason has a seat. Jason asks, "So where exactly are we going, and what is my mission?"
One of the officials responds, "We have detected a shipment of arms/weapons components on a train. The train has been derailed at certain points, and part of it is on fire. This railroad is on outskirts of the city. It is your responsibility to secure the area and the components."
Jason replies, "What is so special about these weapon components?"
The official looks him in the eye and sternly says, "That information is on a need to know basis and you don't need to know."
Somewhat taken aback by this witholding of information, Jason stares at the wall of the copter in front of him for about 10-15 minutes. Suddenly the official turns to him and says, "We have reached the droppoint. Why don't you do your thing and get going?"
Jason nods and goes intangible and falls through the floor out of the copter. He extends his energy claws, and looks at the train. Part of the train is on fire, and slightly derailed. It is obviously not going anywhere. There are mass amounts of smoke coming from the parts of the train that are on fire. Jason touches ground and begins a dash towards the train.
Behind him, Jason hears a loud crash. He turns around to find what looks to be an ordinary guy who is getting up and dusting himself off. Jason approaches him, still intangible, and asks, "What the hell just happened? Who are you?"
The man just looks at him, shakes his head and shrugs.
Jason says, "What, can't you talk?"
The man shakes his head again.
Jason says, "Alright, at least let me know your name. Write it in the dirt."
The man writes Bob on the ground. At this point, another man comes running towards him. He is older than Bob, and is in civilian garb (actually, I'm not sure, I need to clarify this with Steve, as this is his character). A woman is with him.
The man says, "What seems to be going on?"
Jason, knowing that at this point he can't be picky about friends and helpers, says, "There are weapon components on that train. I need to investigate it. If you'll excuse me."
Jason runs off towards the train. He arrives and investigates some of the lesser burning trains. Aside from burning crates, nothing seems to be suspicious in there. Jason investigates a couple more trains, and while he is doing this, he notices that the other man has arrived, and the woman is just standing outside the train. While Jason is in one of the trains, he notices a huge spherical device welded to one of the walls. It would be impossible for him to detach or remove. Jason makes note of it for now, and goes outside. He goes tangible and gets an incoming radio transmission.
"Alastor, there is a train heading directly for your position at full speed."
Jason looks off in the distance, and sure enough there is a black locomotive heading straight for them. He also notices a huge, intracite flying plane is hovering near them. It is just staying in that one spot. Remembering the speherical device, and how it reminded him of the atomic weaponry from his army bases, he turns towards the plane. Not really thinking if it is friend or foe, Jason yells, "Hey, can you hear me?"
The plane turns his way a little, acknowledging his presence, but not much else. Jason, seeing the reaction, yells again, "I don't know who you are, but there is a locomotive heading this way. There is a huge spherical device on this train, and I have a really bad feeling about it, especially if that locomotive collides with this train. I don't know if you can do anything about it, but if you can, please do!"
The other man, surprised at Jason's yelling and sense of urgency, asks, "What is going on?"
Jason responds to him, "You already heard about the speherical device. I do not know if you have any knowledge of explosive devices, but there is a train heading this way. I have a very bad feeling about all of this..."
The man replies, "I don't know much, but lead me to it, maybe I can help."
Jason leads the man into the train and shows him the device. The man puts his ear up to the device, and gets a concerned look on his face.
Jason asks, "What's the matter?"
The man replies, "I hear whirring sounds, and its getting steadily faster and louder. In other words, this baby's going to blow."
Jason responds, "Well, let's buy some time. You know of any way to get this thing off the train so the collision from the other train won't set it off?"
The man looks at him, gets a sly smile, and says, "Sure. I'll melt it off. Just don't touch me."
Jason, not completely sure what he means, gets ready to catch the spherical device, and is astonished as the man becomes lava. He begins to melt the welding off the wall. After a couple minutes, the device is free. It is much heavier than Jason expected (It weighs roughly 760 pounds), and he is struggling to hold it up. The man goes normal again and takes the sphere from Jason (who apparently has super strength), and they both exit from the train through the hole the man had made.
As they exit, Jason notices the other locomotive is much closer than it was before, but also notices that a piece of track seems to have been destroyed. Jason assumes the intricate plane destroyed it with some form of weaponry.
A thought occurs to Jason, "Shit, I wonder if there are any passengers on this train?"
Going intangible once again, Jason runs off at top speed through all the sections of the train. He notices that no one is on the train. He however keeps running. A new idea has now occured to him. He is going to get on the other locomotive in an attempt to stop it.
He arrives at the locomotive and makes a leap of faith into it. Jason is successful, and he looks around. He sees no traditional controls. Instead, he sees a bunch of futuristic controls and monitors. He sees no switches, levers, or control knobs.
"What the hell is this? What the hell is going on?" Jason thinks to himself. Seeing no reason to stay in the locomotive, he leaps out and runs back towards the man with the gigantic sphere.
At this point the locomotive stops moving, and a bunch of noises emit from it. As Jason reaches the other man, he turns around, and to his horror, the locomotive transforms into a giant mech.
"Oh shit..." Jason says blankly.
The other man looks equally surprised and horrified. Then suddenly, the intricate plane itself transform into another mech. Not as large, but it looks like its weaponry is more advanced. The newly transformed mech begins to fire gatling gun rounds at the locomotive-mech, and the mechanized battle begins.
Jason and the other man look at each other. The man appears to have an idea.
"Alright, this thing is going to blow anyway, right? Well, then I have a plan. I'm going to weld this to the side of it." The man tells Jason.
Jason responds, "I'm not crazy about the idea, but we have no real choice. The other mech will keep it busy, and I'll do the best I can as well. Let's get moving!"
With that, Jason goes intangible and extends his energy claws. The other man, spherical device in both hands, begins to run. Jason follows suit.

The Origin of Jason Gallant
Super Solider of the United States Government
Copyright 2004
James Glasbrenner
Jason Gallant was born on May 16th, 1981 in Pittsburg, PA, the first and only child of Mary and Carl Gallant. Carl Gallant was a member of the United States army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Mary Gallant was a bank teller at the local Pittsburg bank (which has since been bought out by the bank now known as Wachovia). Carl and Mary were a lower-middle class couple that was comfortable with their place in the world. Jason grew up in what many would deem a typical American household.
As a child, Jason was an energetic individual who had a hot temper but possessed a heart of gold and a strong sense of justice. On the playground in elementary school he frequently found himself getting into fights, but not without reason. If he saw an unfair fight beginning, or a fellow peer being victimized, he had no qualms with stepping in and taking matters into his own hands. He fought the bullies of the playground, and became the hero of the children whom were the victims of said bullies. Granted, this behavior made him look like a delinquent to the teachers in the school. He often found himself in detention and the teachers treated him with disrespect. One would imagine that Jason would have developed distaste for authority due to this, but there was an event in his life that circumvented this life path.
In middle school Jason joined the wrestling team, and this proved to be his saving grace. For the first time in his life, he encountered an authority figure outside of his family tree that respected him and was a strong individual himself. This was his wrestling coach William Bayne. Under William’s eye, Jason grew into a strong young man with a deep sense of loyalty. William’s disciplined routines had finally curbed Jason’s hot temper. To Jason’s luck, William Bayne was transferred up to his high school the same year he entered 9th grade, so he would be his high school coach as well.
Tragedy entered Jason’s life in 12th grade. It was May, and Jason was primed to earn a sports scholarship and graduate with honors. His father was invited to speak at a function on Memorial Day with his wife in attendance. Although there was no school that day, Jason had made plans with some buddies that weekend, and he was late returning from the beach. As his father was speaking about the Vietnam War, a bomb detonated from within the audience. It was the work of an insane individual who was fiercely anti-war and believed all soldiers must be eradicated. Many people died, and many more were injured. Jason’s mother and father were instantly killed. No less than five minutes later, Jason and his buddies drove by the park on their way home. They stopped when they saw the numerous police cars parked outside. It was here that Jason learned of his parents’ fate. At the news, Jason took a few steps back, gasped for air, fell to his knees, and let out a powerful scream of agony. The image of the park with a small crater from the bomb was forever etched in his memory.
It was on that day that Jason changed his plans for the future. To honor his father and bring terrorists and other evil individuals to justice, Jason enlisted in the United States Army. He was planning to serve for as long as he could, for he felt this was the only way he could atone for not being around that fateful weekend. The army was also a way for Jason to detach from reality, as the discipline and routine would help to repress the awful truth from his mind.
Jason’s life may have continued in this fashion had it not been for the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. This event immediately conjured up the horrible memory of his parent’s death. As Jason sat in the common room of the army base and watched the events unfold, he began to weep silently into his hands. It was at this moment that he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and saw William Bayne. Bayne took Jason outside.
It was here that William Bayne explained that he worked for the United States Government. Jason felt his jaw drop to the ground. He couldn’t believe it. When he asked how come he was in Pittsburg teaching wrestling, William explained that he was there on official business. He was there to try and uncover a terrorist cell, the same one that provided the individual that killed Jason’s parents. Jason still couldn’t believe his ears. Jason then asked why William had disclosed this information to him, since it sounded confidential. It was at this point that William asked Jason to come with him to a limo parked outside the base. William promised to explain everything. Although slightly hesitant, Jason followed William into the limo.
It was here that William explained his purpose. The United States government, a few hours after the second plane hit, secretly approved a super soldier program to covertly strike back at the terrorists responsible. Five individuals were to be selected for the program. Four were already selected, and they were having difficultly selecting a fifth. It was at this point that William remembered Jason, and knowing of his ability from his wrestling days, and that now he was a member of the US Army, he suggested Jason as the fifth super soldier. William then posed the ultimate question to Jason, “Will you join the super soldier program to fight against these terrorists?” Empowered by the story William told, and the memory of his parents’ death still scorching his mind, Jason accepted the proposition.
Jason was taken to a facility with maximum security. It was here that Jason was told that the super soldier creation process was still highly experimental, and that permanent side effects may result from the treatments he was to sustain. Jason was fine with this, and so the treatments began. Three times a day he received injections of a strange, unknown chemical. When he wasn’t being injected, he was taught martial arts, basic survival skills, espionage, and some tricks of the trade that criminals use. About a week into the chemical injections Jason developed the ability to form energy claws that extended from his knuckles. The scientists were quite pleased, as this was the effect that they were aiming for. Finally, to help protect his identity, Jason was given the code name Alastor. This turned out to be appropriate, for alastor was the term for an avenging deity.
About three weeks after the injections began Jason woke in the middle of the night. He had a pounding headache, and his whole body was sweating powerfully. Grabbing his forehead, he rushed for the door. He put his whole weight forward to open the door, but instead of opening the door, he went straight through it. Looking at his body, Jason noticed he was now partially transparent. He began to rush towards the laboratory, when he ran into the four other super soldier subjects. They too were semi-transparent. They found some scientists in the lab, who looked horrified as they all passed through the steel door.
It was discovered that this ability of intangibility was a side effect of the chemical. Although initially they had no control over it, Jason and the rest of the super soldier subjects began to be able to become intangible and regain tangibility at will. The scientists all spoke with delight as to how this power could be used. However, with this new power a price was paid. Jason’s hot temper came back with a vengeance, and with it the chemical had also made his face slightly disfigured. Jason was no longer the handsome man he once was.
It was decided that due to these side effects that the treatment was too dangerous to administer to anyone else. The mysterious chemical was destroyed and all knowledge of it was erased from the computer databases.
Jason and the other super soldiers were sent out to Afghanistan along with the rest of the United States army to take down the Taliban. When America’s attention turned to Iraq, the five super soldiers helped America to take Baghdad in a short amount of time. For their service to the United States, the super soldier team was sent home to rest and relax for a few months.
It was during this time period at home that the unpredictability of the experiment struck again. The four super soldiers that were now Jason’s good friends suddenly went insane. The chemical that had become a part of their genetic code struck again, and burned a mad fury into their brains. They began to go from town to town, killing at will, terrorizing the citizens, and destroying property.
Jason, being the only sane super soldier left, was pulled out of his vacation and given a new assignment. He was to track down the rouge super soldiers and terminate them.
Jason was led on a wild goose chase all over the Mid-Atlantic, always one to two steps behind his former cohorts. All while chasing them, in the back of Jason’s mind he wondered if he too would go insane one day from the chemical.
The chase has led Jason to New Jersey, where he encounters a city that has been the subject of devastation. At first he blames the super soldiers, but he then learns from the local news that instead a group of spherical robots had terrorized the city about a month ago, and that the previous night there had been a loud rumbling and a sinkhole had appeared. An apartment complex and accounting firm were destroyed in the sinkhole. The news intrigues Jason, and his thoughts turn to this city’s current state of affairs. Although he doesn’t think there is a direct connection to the rouge super soldiers, Jason feels subconsciously compelled to investigate the sinkhole. Not only may he uncover the trail of the super soldiers, but the pressing situation of the city grabs his attention (most likely as a result of his love for justice), although lingering here would be in direct opposition to his orders.

This blog has been created for me to "novelize" the happenings in the Heroes Unlimited Campaign I am participating in. I will try to keep it up to date. The first entry will consist of Jason Gallant's background story, and each subsequent entry will detail the happenings of one night of RPing. I will keep this blog for this character as long as Jason Gallant is alive and participating in the campaign.
